Reading Blog #3

In the article, Web Work: A History of Internet Art, by Rachel Greene, I thought it was interesting that the term Net. Art occurred in December 1995 when Slovenian artist Vuk Cosic used it to start talking about online art. Before reading this article I had no history of how online art started. I personally always believed online art started by Americans since they were the ones to dominated the internet. But my understanding of how online art began has changed completely. I think it is very fascinating that in the early years Europe and Russia have always had a strong opinion on online art, which allowed them to open a new motivated and enthusiastic art community. While being in Digital Art 1, my opinion of art has changed massively. I am a business major and love art but it wasn’t until my Junior year of college when I learned how important both relate to each other. For example when creating a company, the logo plays a big part in the consumer’s mind. A logo is how the consumer remembers you, when we look at Apple’s, Mcdonald's, or TacoBell’s logo we know who they are because all three companies have done an excellent job explaining it through their art. I also thought it was interesting to learn by 1996 when it was clear the internet was becoming a significant impact on society, so was digital art. When reading this article, I really fell in love with the art piece for Mezzogiorno restaurant. I really like how the artist uses the same five photos and the same two colors black and white but changes each one to a different shade. When I looked at that picture it made me think of myself walking into a place of food filled with happiness and love. In conclusion, I really enjoyed reading this article because it was knowledgeable about the history of art and helped me learn more about digital art.
